AI - Same As It Ever Was

Our recency-bias is to imagine,
That AI will rise - Armageddon,
That this new tech progression,
Cranks our stakes up to eleven,
But the stakes in fact remain break-even,
Take the discovery of how to control fire way back when,
Which made cooking food and warm sleep possible way back then,
But also got used to burn down other villages - the moment that they figured out arson,
This New-Improved vs. Worst-Ever tension,
Is not a question,
Of volume-level One being turned up to Eleven,
It’s more like -
The promise versus peril of controlled fire and AI,
Inversely proportionate,
Same difference,
Just alike,
The good or bad outcomes were really driven by us,
The good or bad outcomes will be really driven by us,
The stakes that were introduced by controlled fire's introduction,
In and of itself neutral,
Its outcomes came down to how we the people...
Its New-Improved vs. Worst-Ever tension,
It amounted to, One + Negative-One = Zero,
Over the long bending arc of our duration,
AI's the same exact equation,
Even if it feels bigger than the scale of One through Ten,
It’s really just break-even,
Like, Eleven,
Plus, Negative-Eleven.
